Nonprofit Board Network

Welcome to the home page of the Ross School of Business' Nonprofit Board Network, a community involvement project for Business School alumni. Ideally, this network will continue to grow and become a resource for nonprofits and volunteers.

Increased scrutiny of the nonprofit sector is revealing a need for stronger governance in organizations and a demand for board members with business skills and experience. Further, an estimated 3 million nonprofit board seats will open up during the year nationally and 1.2 million will go unfilled. To meet this need, Alumni Clubs are organizing and hosting sessions to train area business school alumni for nonprofit board service.

In the near future we hope to have a searchable online database available. This database will assist nonprofit organizations and alumni board candidates in connecting.

For more information about the Nonprofit Board Network please contact Steven Renaldi at (734) 737-9515, or srenaldi@umich.edu.

Nonprofit Organizations

To date, approximately 125 people have taken the board training. They have a range of business experience and backgrounds and work in a number of different functional areas such as marketing, finance and others.

If your board needs to increase its business acumen, or just needs new members in general, this network may be a good resource for your organization to locate and recruit new board members. To participate, please fill out this organizational profile and mail it to the address on the form.

B-School Alumni

For Ross alumni considering nonprofit board service as part of their professional career, the Nonprofit Board Network can be an excellent resource. Completing a training session will not only make you a more attractive board candidate, but will teach you what to look for and what to avoid in a board.

After the training, the network can help locate board opportunities that match your interests and skills. If you would like to find out more about nonprofit board service, or to learn about an upcoming training session please let us know.
