| New OMS Department Chair at Ross |
|
The Tauber
Institute wishes to congratulate Professor Izak Duenyas for being
named Chairman of the Operations and Management Science (OMS) Department.
Professor Duenyas recently served as an associate dean for the Ross School
of Business and has been awarded the Executive MBA Teaching Award by Ross
students and the "Researcher of the Year" award by the Ross School.
Professor Duenyas steps into the shoes most recently filled by Professor
Bill Lovejoy since 1995.
During
his tenure as Department Chairman, Professor Lovejoy elevated the status of
the OMS Department to a #4 national ranking in 2005 by the Wall Street
Journal. He has also taught the highly renowned
Integrated Product
Development (IPD) course, and in the last few years led the effort to
incorporate students from the School of Art & Design to the IPD teams to
focus on the aesthetics of products. Most recently, the IPD course has
enjoyed coverage by CNN, Business Week, the Wall Street Journal and the New
York Times. Professor Lovejoy will now be able to focus more time on his
current research interests - managing across functional boundaries,
innovation, and health care - and, of course, continue to teach the IPD
class.
We thank Professor Lovejoy for his years of service as Department Chair and
wish Professor Duenyas the best of luck in his new appointment.

Alumni Profile: Jennifer Tyler (Dual MBA/MSE '96) |

It's a Dual Life for Tauber Alum Jennifer Tyler
Jennifer Tyler knows a thing or two about dual responsibilities. She can communicate with engineering and business executives alike; design products and motivate those who bring them to life; and conduct an interview while driving down the interstate. "We left Georgia a couple hours ago and are in Tennessee now, heading home to Michigan to visit friends and family," said Tyler while at the wheel with her family of four in tow.
As Plant Manager of Steelcase's Small Case Storage Facility in Atlanta, Tyler budgets her family time wisely, taking advantage of an opportunity to return "home" to recharge. Michigan is the place, after all, that started her on her career path and where she plans to relocate some day.

Profile: Eric Peltz (Dual MBA/MS-IOE '95) |
|
Eric Peltz never imagined he'd be a Wolverine. The Atlanta-raised history buff had set his sights on the U.S. Military Academy at West Point at a young age. But after deciding to leave the Army and embark on a new career direction, it was the lure of a unique dual degree program that brought him to the University of Michigan and the Tauber Institute for Global Operations.
"West Point was my big dream from the time I was 10 years old. I loved the military and knew where I wanted to go," he said. But it could be said that it was his decision to attend UM to earn an MBA/MS-IOE degree after West Point and time in the service that helped him plot his professional course.
