Gautam Ahuja
Michael R. and Mary Kay Hallman Fellow, Professor of Corporate Strategy and International Business; Chair of Corporate Strategy and International Business

Dr. Gautam Ahuja is Professor of Strategy and a Hallman Faculty Fellow at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. He is the Chairperson of the Strategy group. Prior to joining the University of Michigan in 2001 he was on the faculty of the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin. Professor Ahuja has received numerous teaching awards and honors, and was chosen as the Best Professor in the MBA program by the MBA students in 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2001 at Texas. In 2003, 2004 and 2005 he was selected as the Best Professor in the MBA program at the Ross School of Business at The University of Michigan becoming the first 3 time winner of this distinction. In 2004 he also won the Ph.D. Teaching Excellence Award becoming the first Professor to win both the MBA and the Ph.D. awards in the same year. Since 1997-8 he has also been recognized as outstanding faculty in Business Week's annual guide to the top business schools.

Professor Ahuja obtained his doctoral degree from The University of Michigan in 1996. He also holds a PGDM from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and B.A. (Honors in Economics), from St. Stephen's College, Delhi University, as well as an M.A. and MBA from the University of Michigan. His work experience includes co-founding and running his own company and several years in various managerial positions with Pond's/Unilever, a global consumer products company. He has also designed educational board games. Professor Ahuja's research interests focus on how firms use technology to gain and exploit competitive advantage. His research has received several international awards from the top scholarly associations in the field including the Academy of Management (AOM), the Strategic Management Society (SMS), and The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). Among these awards is the Free Press Award for outstanding research in Strategic Management, the Sage-Pondy and West Publishing Awards for outstanding research in Organization Theory, both from The Academy of Management, and the College on Organization Science Best Dissertation Award from The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). His publications include several articles in the top scholarly journals and have been cited by various federal and international bodies such as the EPA, OECD and UNEP. Some of his recent work on acquisitions has been profiled in Sloan Management Review. He is an Associate Editor for the journal, Management Science, a Senior Editor for the journal Organization Science and a member of the Editorial Board for the journals, Administrative Science Quarterly, and Strategic Organization.
 
 
 
Vikramaditya Khanna
Professor, University of Michigan Law School

Professor Vikramaditya S. Khanna joined the University of Michigan Law School Faculty in 2004. He earned his S.J.D. at Harvard Law School and has been visiting faculty at Harvard Law School, a senior research fellow at Columbia Law School, and a visiting scholar at Stanford Law School. His areas of interest include corporate law, securities fraud & regulation, corporate governance in emerging markets, corporate crime, corporate and managerial liability, and law and economics. He is a recipient of the John M. Olin Faculty Fellowship for 2002–2003 and his papers have been published in the Harvard Law Review, Boston University Law Review, and the Georgetown Law Journal amongst others. He has also presented papers at Harvard Law School, Columbia University School of Law, American Law & Economics Association Annual Meeting, the National Bureau of Economic Research, Wharton Business School, Indian School of Business Hyderabad, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, Tsinghua University Beijing, and Stanford Law School amongst others.
 
 
 
Suketu Patel
Head of Strategic Global Sourcing, Infosys Technologies

Suketu Patel has over 25 years of experience in information systems. As Head of Strategic Global Sourcing at Infosys, he leads the unit which specializes on dealing with the complexities of large global offshore outsourcing. This includes sourcing model development, market positioning, transition management and actual delivery of outsourced solutions. Prior to Infosys, he served as Vice President of Information Systems at TRW Automotive where he developed and championed the e-business strategy focusing on operational efficiency, supply chain effectiveness, and new product introduction while implementing a strategy to reduce ongoing costs via offshore outsourcing.

Suketu holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan, and has served on the boards of several organizations.
 
 
 
Ranjit Samra
Executive Director, Morgan Stanley

Mr. Ranjit Samra is Executive Director and Head of Modelware IT at Morgan Stanley. Ranjit began his career with EDS, working on the Lehman Brothers account. He has effectively been working in the Institutional Banking IT field for the past 16 years and has worked in London, Luxembourg, New York and Mumbai. Ranjit joined Morgan Stanley in 1992 as part of the application development group aligned to the prime brokerage and global custody businesses. During this tenure, Ranjit was responsible for the portfolio accounting systems, and worked on the IT integration for a merger and acquisition. Leading up to the millennium, he played leadership roles across the IT department on EMU and Y2K.

Prior to arriving in India towards the end of 2003, Ranjit managed the Enterprise Reporting and Delivery infrastructure across Morgan Stanley, which delivered over 3 million reports to 20,000 external clients every month.

At the end of 2003, Ranjit relocated to Mumbai to start-up the IT Application Development group. Over 18 months, the group grew to almost 100 employees across 15 projects in 7 IT silos, including 14 graduate trainees.

Ranjit graduated with a Bachelors degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 1990 and later obtained an Executive MBA, both from the City University of London. Ranjit returned to New York in mid-2005 to assume leadership of Morgan Stanley’s global Modelware IT team.
 
 
 
Praveen Madan
Entrepreneur

Praveen Madan is an entrepreneur / investor seeking out business opportunities along the US-India Corridor, “the new silk road” of global commerce.

Most recently, Mr. Madan was a Managing Director at Trilogy, a business-value centered company headquartered in Austin, Texas. He oversaw the launch of Trilogy’s new Telecom Business Unit in India developing innovative business services for Indian Telecom clients.

Before Trilogy, Mr. Madan was a senior principal at A.T. Kearney, a global management-consulting firm. He was one of the leaders of A.T. Kearney’s strategy practice serving clients in the high-tech industry. His clients included leading technology companies like HP, Sun Microsystems, Microsoft, Adobe Systems, EDS, Qwest, and Japan Telecom. He still serves on the advisory board of several venture-backed companies in Silicon Valley.

Mr. Madan is a recognized thought leader and he has been quoted in leading business publications and media outlets like the Business Week, Information Week, San Jose Mercury News, Nikkei, and PBS.

Mr. Madan’s community activities are focused in the areas of education and health-care for children. He has been active with a number of community organizations like the Bay Area Council, March of Dimes, and Jeena.

Mr. Madan has over 15 years of experience working with leading companies in North America, Europe, South-East Asia, and Japan. Mr. Madan received his MBA from the University of Texas at Austin and his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi, India.

Mr. Madan is a resident of the US and India and spends his time between the San Francisco Bay Area, Austin, Bangalore, and Mumbai.
