Welcome to the 16th Annual Asia Business Conference sponsored by NWA
With its high growth rate, Asia
has been one of the fastest growing markets in the past decade with all major multinational companies developing
extensive manufacturing and sales operations in different parts of Asia. University of Michigan in cognizance of
the opportunities in "growing Asia" has built a tradition of successfully organizing Asia Business Conferences.
The conference provides a platform for industry leaders to interact with students of University of Michigan
Business School and fosters a close working relationship among them. This symbiotic relationship developed over
the past fifteen years has made the Asia Business Conference (ABC) one of the largest business conferences in
the country. It is also the longest running student conference on Asia in any business school in the country.
The Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan is committed to fostering the
knowledge and practice of global strategic corporate leadership through cutting-edge research, high quality
education, constructive public outreach, and networking activities. The Asia Business
Conference brings this commitment to life by connecting companies with students and fostering
dialogue around issues relating to Asian markets as well as companies from Asia.
The Asia Business Conference provides members of the business school community with a unique
opportunity to learn about Asia from people who are directly involved in shaping the economic future
of the region.
This year’s Asia Business Conference was held in Ann Arbor, MI on January 20 - 21, 2006.
The conference featured general panel sessions on business in China, India, Korea, Japan, and
Southeast Asia. Specialized panels discussed finance, healthcare, technology, entrepreneurship and
venture capital, women in business, development, and other topics of current interest.
"I commend the conference organizers and the University of Michigan Business School
ABC organization for their outstanding work... Organizations such as yours are instrumental in creating the linkages
needed for commerce, research and policy-making today."
Jennifer Granholm, Governor of Michigan
"As the longest running student conference at the business school, this event provides
a valuable opportunity for business people, government officials and educators from the United states and Asia to
collaborate and build relationships. The expertise of the speakers will provide an interesting perspective on the
future of business in Asia."
Debbie Stabenow, United States Senator
