The 2007 Global Urban Symposium is a multidisciplinary forum at the University of Michigan with a focus on urban metropolises. This day-long conference explores the roles that business and the public sector may play in addressing the challenges of economic, environmental, and social resource deprivation that exist in cities around the globe.
This year’s conference, whose theme is Global Cities in the 21st Century: Leading Community Transformation will be held on September 21, 2007 at the Michigan Union. It will be hosted by the Ross Net Impact student club in partnership with other student clubs, including the Black Business Students Association (BBSA), the Real Estate Club, the Hispanic and Latino Business Students Association (HLBSA), the Association for Public Policy About Learning and Education (APPLE), and the Entrepreneur and Venture Club (EVC).
This year’s panels, featuring leaders of major companies and organizations from around the country, will address:
- Urban Microfinance & Economic Development
- Green Building & Affordable Housing
- Urban Social Entrepreneurship
- Environmental Justice & Urban Business
- Sustainable Infrastructure Development
- Business and Equity in Education
- Green Building & Urban Environmental Issues
In an effort to provide a more holistic experience, the conference will include artistic performances and/or exhibitions. The conference will also feature an afternoon Career Fair - an opportunity for networking with panelists and other companies and organizations. In addition, through a partnership with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Net Impact will host an information session about BCG’s “Mission Driven Consulting Project” at the Global Urban Symposium.
By providing a forum to address the pressing needs of the world’s poorest urban populations, the 2007 Global Urban Symposium will inform and inspire our nation’s future business and public sector leaders into taking the lead in creating lasting community transformation. |
