MEET THE AUTHOR OF

The Interpretation and Use of Financial Statements:

An Executive-Level Perspective

 

 

David W. Wright (affectionately known to his students as "Dr. Dave") joined the faculty of the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan in 1985.  He is both a Certified Public Accountant and a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries.

Dr. Wright is the author of numerous academic articles in the areas of financial reporting, auditing and the economics of corporate legal liability.  Publications have appeared in The Review of Accounting Studies; The International Review of Law and Economics; The Journal of Financial Statement Analysis; The Journal of Accounting, Auditing, and Finance;  Accounting Horizons; Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory; and The Expectation Gap Standards, a monograph published by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

With extensive teaching experience in both the undergraduate and MBA degree programs as well as University of Michigan and corporate education seminars, he is one of the most highly regarded members of the faculty in the classroom.  He is a past recipient of the Student Award for Teaching Excellence and the prestigious faculty-selected Victor L. Bernard Award for Leadership in Teaching.  Dr. Wright has extensive teaching experience in eleven countries through the Global MBA and Executive Education programs.  He has conducted numerous corporate education seminars for both for-profit and not-for-profit enterprises including Abbott Laboratories, Ernst & Young, Federal Express, Henry Ford Health System, the Michigan Law School and the University of Michigan Health System.  He was the Academic Director of the Master of Accounting degree program from 1996 through 2011 and is currently Vice Chair of the university-level Senate Advisory Committee on University Affairs (SACUA).  SACUA is the nine-person executive arm of the University Faculty Senate and consults with the President, Provost, Regents and Executive Officers on matters of University policy and faculty governance.

When not engaged in professional activities, Dr. Dave is an avid golfer, an active member of his church, a novice cruciverbalist, and a short story writer.  He routinely cheats at solitaire.

All profits from the sale of The Interpretation and Use of Financial Statements: An Executive-Level Perspective are being donated by Professor Wright to endowed scholarship funds supporting business education at the University of Michigan and his undergraduate alma mater, Drake University.
