Variables: (1)gvkey--gvkey in numeric format; (2)gvkey2--gvkey in character format; (3)filedate--the 10-K filing date; (4)fiscdate--the fiscal year end date; (5)fog, kincaid, flesch--the readbility measures; and (6)num_words--the total number of words in the 10-K.

2. Competition data from Li, Lundholm, and Minnis (2012)

The variables in the following datasets include: gvkey, year, and pctcomp. "year" is the calendar year of the fiscal year end date. For instance, if a firm's fiscal year ends on December 31, 1999, then year=1999; if it's May 31, 1999, it's also 1999. "pctcomp" is calculated as 1000 * (the number of competition-related words / the total number of words).
