Meet the SIF Founders

Pete Bacevice

Pete is a doctoral candidate in the Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education at the University of Michigan School of Education.  His dissertation is on university spin-off companies and networks of knowledge and innovation.  It is a qualitative study of a cluster of academic biotech companies in Melbourne, Australia, and it seeks to develop a framework for understanding the complexities of knowledge accessibility, creation, and transfer within inter-organizational and network relationships. He currently works with Competing Values, an Ann Arbor-based innovation consulting practice.  Pete holds a BA in American Studies and History as well as an MBA, both from Case Western Reserve University.

Dan Gruber

Dan is an Assistant Professor in the Medill IMC department and Courtesy Professor of Management & Organizations in the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Dan’s research focuses on the relationship between firms and the financial media and his teaching centers on corporate communications, public relations, and managing change in dynamic environments. His prior work experience includes Bank of America, ABC News, GlobalNet Financial, PNC Financial, and General Electric.  Dan holds a BBA in Finance and International Business from Washington University in St. Louis, an MBA and MILR (Industrial Relations) from Cornell University, and a PhD from the University of Michigan

Lisa Guzman

Lisa is a doctoral candidate in the Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education at the University of Michigan School of Education.  Her research and scholarly interests include the socialization process of students into the college environment, organizational identification with the academic institution, and the relationship between institutional allegiance and alumni behavior. Her prior work experience includes doing research for the RAND Corporation and UCLA.  She currently works with the Rackham School of Graduate Studies at the University of Michigan.  Lisa holds a BA in Psychology and Sociology from the University of California at Berkeley as well as an MA in Education from the University of Michigan.

Danielle Molina

Dani is a doctoral candidate in the Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education at the University of Michigan School of Education.  Her research and scholarly interests include organizational adaptation to administrative IT-related change in colleges and universities, postmodern environmental change, and sensemaking.  Her prior work experience includes residence life, career placement, and graduate student service positions at Heidelberg College, Vassar College, and the University of Michigan.  Dani holds a BA in Geological Sciences from Northwestern University as well as an MA in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University.

Ryan Smerek

Ryan is an independent scholar and a research associate with Ann Arbor-based Denison Consulting.  His research interests are centered around the areas of organizational culture and organizational identity as well as practical issues in the college presidency and university governance.  He previously worked for the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Ryan holds a PhD in Education, with a concentration in organizational behavior and management, from the University of Michigan.  He also holds a BA in Economics from Dartmouth College and an EdM in Leadership Development and College Administration from Harvard University.

Jude Yew

Jude is a doctoral candidate at the University of Michigan School of Information.  His research interests include technology-mediated and collaborative learning, creativity and technology, and social and organizational impact in the use of technologies.  He is secretary of Michigan Ohio Computer-Human Interaction and is a member of the Association for Computer Machinery's Special Interest Group on Computer-Human Interaction.  Jude holds a Diploma in Education from the National Institute of Education in Singapore, a BA (Hons) in English Literature from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, and an MS in Human-Computer Interaction from the University of Michigan.
