Yisraelim, NFP
  Chicago, USA 1997-
2004

Founder. The mission of the Yisraelim Not-for-Profit was to build an organizational infrastructure that will cultivate Israeli culture and tradition by creating a supportive community for all Israelis in North America through social interactions, educational events, and an online forum. It grew out of a grass roots Israeli graduate-students and young -professionals group in Chicago that established by Shirli Kopeman when she moved to the U.S. in 1997. Yisraelim was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) status January of 2002. At the time, it included over 1000 members and was operated by about 50 volunteers (see sample homepage and mission, services, and history). Operations included events such as holiday parties, dinners, a book club, children's playgroups, student activities, sports, and business networking.

Onging Activity: There is still
an active listserv through which Israeli can communicate with one another Chicago, Illinois (ICC) http://groups.yahoo.com/group/chicagoyisraelim and in Ann Arbor, Michigan (ICAA) http://groups.yahoo.com/group/annarboryisraelim, These are operated by local volunteers.

Kellogg MORS
Doctoral Student Committee
  Chicago, USA 1998 - 2001

Initiated, Developed, and Coordinated. Initiated a doctoral student committee that would meet regularly to discuss common concerns and work to make the program a more productive and fun environment; Prior to my arrival to Kellogg the student body was not organized in any way. We now have a mechanism in place that enables us to work through task forces and sub-committies to continue to improve our environment. Before successfully transferring my role to my successor, I initiated a web page that provides a location for minutes and agendas of our meetings (private information shared only by current MORS students) and information about our PhD program (publically accessible). This has been a very satisfying endeavor and has succeeded thanks to the full support of fellow students and faculty.
